A Deep Breath at a Mountain Inn

Tucked deep in the mountains of Kawakami Village, Nara Prefecture, Asahikan is located at the entrance of the Yoshino Omine Mountain Range and has welcomed travelers and hikers for the past 140 years.
There is so much to take in. A view of the garden through the Taisho era glass that has kept the air of when this inn was first built. Dishes made with seasonal local ingredients. A warm bath filled with water from these mountains...and so much more.
Asahikan is both a central location for enjoying hiking and outdoor activities, as well as a quiet space for you to relax.

Seasonal Aromas, and Flavors
that Stay in Your Heart

The fresh smell of ayu fish, steam climbing up from a hot pot of wild boar, vibrantly colored wild vegetables. With river fish and mountain game, dishes are made with as many local ingredients as possible. Preserving a recipe that has been passed down through generations, the yuzu yokan dessert is slowly stirred in a firewood pot, and only available in winter. We also hope you enjoy the tea grown in Asahikan’s very own tea crop just up the mountain.
